"Pin-up boy, Johnny Depp, is an orphan adopted by a gang of backwoods hillbillies in this super-stylized musical comedy (yes, it's true - a musical comedy!) about class difference in the late 50's. Perhaps the most corny of all Waters' films, Cry Baby is rarely mentioned as anyone's favorite. But it is not without charm. Ex-teenage porn star, Traci Lords, plays a buxom bad-girl who is nearly shipped off to Sweden as an exchange student by her parents. Ricki Lake gets pregnant (out of wedlock!). And with cameos from Joe Dallesandro, Joey Heatherton, Patty Hearst, Willem Dafoe, and David Nelson it can't be all bad. Just remember that this is the first film he made after the passing of Divine."
