Independence Day - Abyss DVD Description
"Includes two features:"Independence Day - The rollicking adventure begins when a pack of meteors is found to be on a collision course with Earth. It doesn't make things any better when folks find out that they're actually not meteors at all -- that's because they turn out to be gigantic spaceships bent on the destruction and enslavement of the human race! After the aliens wipe out Washington D.C., Los Angeles and New York City (among other spots) in a series of spectacular set pieces, it's up to U.S. President Whitmore (Bill Pullman) to figure out a way to stop the hostile takeover. And with the help of spunky fighter pilot Will Smith and scientist-turned-cable guy Jeff Goldblum he does just that! The whole thing's awfully silly, and the plot has holes big enough to drive a truck through. And those of a less Ameri-centric view of the world may chafe at the 'U.S. saves the world' dynamic. Still, if you can put your critical thinking skills on hold for a couple of hours, 'Independence Day' serves up more than enough action, adventure and off-handed comedy to satisfy. Will Smith turns in a winning performance as the hot-shot pilot, and the always lovable Randy Quaid turns up in a goofy comedic supporting role. Fast-paced, silly fun for the whole family.
"The Abyss - In this thrilling, underwater action adventure from writer-director James Cameron (Titanic, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Aliens), a civilian oil rig crew is recruited to conduct a search-and-rescue effort when a nuclear submarine mysteriously sinks. One diver (Ed Harris) soon finds himself on a spectacular odyssey 25,000 feet below the ocean's surface where he confronts a mysterious force that has the power to change the world or destroy it. Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio and Michael Biehn co-star."
